So many people look into past life work because of relationships - either a thorny one that they are having a hard time resolving, a loving one they wish to reconnect with, or the lack of relationship. A recent client said she felt like she had a wall or block to developing romantic relationships. In our session, she recalled a lifetime in Venice in the early 1800s where she and her child are abandoned by her philandering lover. She moves to American, meets and marries a wealthy widower, and is happy for a few years. When he dies unexpectedly, she is thrown out by his family who never accepted her. She resolves that she would never give her heart away again like that; she would protect herself from being hurt. It seems she had carried that attitude into the current lifetime, where it is not serving her well! We did some work on breaking the ties between that lifetime and the current one, and I suggested the client continue to work to comfort the vestiges of that prior personality within herself, so she might open her heart to a loving relationship.
Not every client has fantastic recall of the scenes and events of the prior life they visit in session. At times it can be pretty sketchy, although I'm usually gratified as how well most 'first timers' do. Recalling past life memories is a skill that typically builds with repetition; I think partially because people who have had more than one session have lost that initial anxiety surrounding whether they will get anything or not. But even sketchy recall can lead to a very helpful session. I just worked with a client who only got vague details from a Medieval lifetime, but we were able to identify and work with repeating patterns common to that life and her current life. And the sketchiness did not extend to our work between lifetimes, when we accessed higher spiritual guidance. She received many helpful insights and suggestions that spoke directly to her area of concern. She ended the session saying she felt great!
I worked with a past-life regression client recently who wanted to know, among other things, what she was supposed to learn from her difficult challenges this lifetime, and why on a soul level she had picked these difficult situations. I posed this question when we were working with her spiritual guidance after the death in the prior life we first visited. The client was told that she was learning to understand suffering and have compassion for how others think and feel. Her lesson was to learn that others thoughts and feelings were as important as her own.
I knew this kind of lesson typically came from having spent a lifetime in blatant disregard for others (which hadn't been the case in her current life, nor in the prior life we had already visited), so I asked for her to get a glimpse of whatever lifetime set up the need for that lesson. She saw herself as a young man in India in the 1500s who was spoiled, selfish, and loved feeling like he was the center of the universe. "I hurt people without realizing it, I was blind to whatever was 'not me,' I had no perspective, no thoughts for others" she said.
Since it appeared that the pendulum had swung a little too far in the other direction in her current life, we did some work on being able to let go of being kind to others at the expense of being kind to herself, that rather, she could be kind to others and to herself as well. She will have to work on changing some well entrenched habits of thinking and behavior in this life, but seeing where some of the impetus comes from should be helpful in turning this karma around.
Any of you who are authors will know what a challenge it is to find a literary agent to market your book to the big national publishers. Well, I just signed a contract with Whimsy Literary Agents in New York! Quite exciting news. They really believe -- as I do -- that we can go national with a book that focuses on extending past-life recall from the ' New Age' realm into the mainstream, something that can enhance the lives of everyday people! So I'll be removing my current 'prototype' book from online sales until a new edition comes out through regular publishing channels. Thanks to all my readers of the first edition, your comments have been so encouraging and have played a big part in pushing me to take the next step.
